Get ready for the 2019-2020 school year!

Here’s what you need to know and do.

Aug. 20
  • Sixth Grade Student Social. 9:00 am-11:00 am, Cartan Field. Outdoor fun and games.
Aug. 21
  • Sixth Grade Orientation (students only), 9:30 am to 12:00 pm.
  • Seventh Grade Back-to-School Party. 2:00-4:00 pm, off-campus. Details on the class webpage.
  • Eighth Grade Back-to-School Party. 1:00-3:00 pm (updated time), off-campus. Details on the class webpage.  
Aug. 22
  • First Day of Classes. Begins with a short assembly in the Garage at 8:20 am.
  • Sixth Grade Outdoor Ed. Overnight Trip
Aug. 30
  • Sixth Grade Parent Coffee. 8:30-10:00 am, Dining Commons. Come meet other sixth grade parents.
Sept. 3
  • First MSPA meeting for Middle School, 8:45 am (hospitality at 8:15 am), Martin Family Hall.
Sept. 5
  • Back-to-School Night, 5:00-7:30 pm

Before School Starts, Do This:

1. Turn in your Health and Athletic Forms

  • If you haven’t already, please submit your forms through Magnus Health Student Medical Record (SMR). Athletic forms and all health forms were due Aug. 1. Questions? Contact Joan Barada, RN, at 650.330.2001 ext. 2530 or

2. Sign the Student and Parent Handbook

3. Get your Books and Supplies and Finish Summer Assignments

  • Middle School students will receive their schedules via email by August 12.
  • Be sure to order your fall books . To see what books are needed for your courses, please visit MBS Direct. Summer reading books are available there starting June 1 and Fall/Spring books are available July 3. Shipping is free on orders of $99+ between August 1-13. (Note: you are not required to purchase from MBS Direct; you can order them from any vendor you prefer.)
  • Review the summer reading assignments  and finish your assignment before the first class.
  • To view the school supplies list and/or order school supplies check out Keokit (formerly Locker) for one-stop shopping or shop at your preferred vendor.  
  • Eighth-grade students should make arrangements to have either an iPad or Mac laptop  by the first day of school. Seventh-grade students should bring a Mac laptop on the first day. Sixth graders, you won’t need your MacBook until September 9.
  • Sixth graders will get their locks during orientation. Seventh and eighth-grade students will be given their locker locations on the first day of school, and they should bring their locks on the first day of classes.

4. Find an Alternative Way to Get to School

  • Help reduce traffic! GO MENLO is the way the Menlo community gets to and from school. Make a commitment to walk, bike, carpool, or ride the train or bus. You can use the Carpool Map to find other Menlo families for a carpool. You can also sign up to use one of the four Menlo buses (San Mateo/San Carlos/RWC, East Palo Alto/Palo Alto, Woodside/Portola Valley, Cupertino/Los Gatos).

New families: A temporary website login was included in a recent email. Your permanent login information will be sent to you the week of August 12. After that, if you have trouble logging in, please contact with your child’s full name and grade level. We will respond to you in a timely manner.
